Located on the banks of River Meenachil, the town of Pala is well-known for its extensive rubber plantations. Also known by the name Palai, the town is located near to the southern Western Ghats and offers abundant natural beauty to the tourists. Apart from rubber plantations, the tourists can also take pleasure in visiting the spice plantations. Pepper is grown in huge quantity and a popular variety called Palai pepper can be purchased from the town’s markets.

Pala has a huge population of Christians and is thus famous for numerous churches. Bharananganam Church that accommodates the remains of St. Alphonsa is worth visiting. Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese is another revered site attracting Catholic followers in huge numbers. You can also visit St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Cathedral and St. Mary's Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. There are some Hindu temples in the town, the most popular ones being Lalam Mahadeva Temple, Ambalppurathukavu Bhagavthy Temple and Puliyannoor Mahadeva Temple.
