Thalassery Fort and the Golden Beaches
The headquarters of the British during the colonial rule, the Thalassery Fort is a popular historical monument these days. Located on the Malabar Coast in Thalassery Village of Kerala, the fort was built in the year 1708 to make trading easy for the merchants. The wreckage of an old merchant ship can be seen on a visit to the fort. What mesmerizes the visitors is the serene atmosphere of the beach near the fort. The beach has miles of golden sand which adds pleasure to the beach walks. Apart from relaxing near the beach, you may also use the opportunity to swim.
The fort is a majestic structure, known for its grand entry doors and huge walls. The church and the lighthouse are among the major attractions inside the fort. It is believed that there are many secret tunnels form the fort that lead to the sea. The village also offers many other attractions in the form of old traditional houses and religious sites.
