A special mention must go to Sanjay and his senior associate at the Delhi office. They made an immediate appointment at hospital to treat Andrew’s eye infection. Fatehpur Sikri
Fatehpur Sikri surfaced as an ambitious city in the 16th century, the time period when Mughal Emperor Akbar attained supreme power. The emperor took keen interest in planning the architecture of various buildings within the city complex. He took ideas from Persian architectural style and blended them with the features of Indian architectural styles popular in the states like Gujarat and Bengal. After inhabiting the city for more than 10 years, Akbar abandoned it. The city since then has acquired the status of being a ghost town with a mystical environment spread all over.
Explore the structures made of red sandstone, the material that was easily accessible in the nearby areas at the time of city’s construction. Buland Darwaza, Tomb of Salim Chishti, Jama Masjid and a number of imperial buildings reflect the wonderful architectural splendor. The city complex is spread over an area of more than 2 miles and there are many ruins of bazaars that were used by the residents at the time of city’s possession.
Fatehpur Sikri is deservingly a UNESCO World Heritage Site with many architectural marvels to its credit. Explore the city with a guide who can make you familiar with the detailed history of the place.
