Kanyakumari travel guide

The southern tip of India, also known as “Cape Comorin”, the place where there is a confluence of Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea , one of the most sought after, exotic tourist places in India is Kanyakumari. This is the only place in whole of India, where, you can enjoy the Sunset and Moon Rise simultaneously on a full moon day. The exact spot where all the three oceans meet is called as Thriveni Sangamam and taking a holy dip at this place is said to be very auspicious.

Besides the places of interest for tourism, Kanya Kumari is famous as a sacred place to visit. The city derives its name from the Goddess Kanya Kumari Amman who is the presiding deity in the temple here. This is one of the very few temples in India where the Goddess is worshipped in the form of a small girl called Balambika. As She is believed to be the Goddess of Sanyasa Dharma (god of ascetics), people who want to become Sanyasins(Ascetics), have to get Her blessings called Deeksha. This temple finds mention in ancient history as the most powerful Shakthi Peeth.
