Sri Padmanabhaswamy Kshetram

The Padmanabhaswamy Temple is regarded as the most prominent amongst the Vaishnavite temples in India. It is the wealthiest temple in the entire world with its possessions worth in Billions. It is considered as a Mahakshetra [Great Temples] as it got all the elements of a great temple. The splendid engineering,legendary stories,and most of all the riches it has in its vaults,all add to the reason why it is renowned as the great temple. There are specific dress codes to be followed before you enter inside the temple. Men should only wear Mundu or Dhothi and should not wear any shirt,t-shirts or any other tops.Women are permitted to wear only sarees while inside the temple.

Kovalam

Popularized by the Hippies during the 60’s counter culture generation of the west,Kovalam is the second most sought after beach destination in India next to Goa. By the side of the Arabian sea,lies this chain of three gorgeous crescent beaches namely the Lighthouse Beach,the famous Hawa Beach which is the first topless beach in India,the Samudra Beach at the North end of Kovalam. The Samudra beach is mostly deserted which makes it ideal for the honeymooners and couples to have some romantic time together. Kovalam is a one-stop destination for some of best sea food delicacies on the subcontinent. If you wish to relax your body and mind,go for an Ayurvedic Massage or a Yoga/Meditationsession at various Massage Parlours and Yoga centres spread throughout the shoreline.

Varkala

Rapidly getting more popular than Kovalam,this sea side is also one of the most happening destinations in Kerala now. Unlike Kerala’s usual geography,Cliffs here at Varkala are close to the sea and forms a stunning set up to enjoy yet another marvel of Mother Nature. There are many beer-wine parlours and sea food stalls by the side where you can have some chill out time and taste some exquisite sea food of Kerala. These days,Varkala is more demanding than Kovalam as it is less crowded,clean and equally beautiful.

Kuthiramalika [Horse Palace]

History says when the Travancore Maharajas [Kings] left Padmanabhapuramand settled at Thiruvananthapuram,Kuthiramalika was their home. 5000 specialists constructed this royal residence in 4 years,and their diligent work paid off in completing this bit of excellence and inventiveness. The most striking feature of the structure is the 122 horses carved artistically out of wood which gives it a classy Kerala look. 16 rooms are open to the public which possess some priceless collections and other antiques.

Sree Chitra Art Gallery

This wonderful exhibition of art was set up by none other than the Maharaja of Travancore Sri Chithira Thirunal in the year 1935. It shows case a percentage of the finest art works of Indian artists. The most prominent of these collections are the works of one of the most revered artists of all time in Kerala,Raja Ravi Verma. Apart from that,numerous other splendid bits of craftsmanship are on display here. Some splendid works of the Chinese,the Japanese and the Tibetans are also of great interests to the visitors.

Agasthyakoodam

At a stature of 1890 meters above sea level,Agasthyakoodam teams up with the Sahyadri mountain ranges. It is named after the famous sage Agastyar who is believed to have lived here. The second highest peak in Kerala is well known for its rare species of herbals growing in its soil. The greenery is awesome and the air so fresh and cool. It is one of the best hilltops for an escape from your tiring life at the hot low lands. A lovely trek through the woods here is recommended to soothe your mind and body.

Ponmudi Hills

A complete destination with sky-high mountains,roaring waterfalls,and lush green jungle,Ponmudi or the Golden Peak is recommended to all who loves to explore the god’s own country Kerala. Indulge into various adventurous activities like trekking,rock climbing and much more. A visit to the mist covered tea estates are also worth it. Nevertheless,the route from Thiruvananthapuram to Ponmudi itself is breathtakingly beautiful. The serpentine roads expose you to some mind-bending “sights of nature”
